What We're Reading: August 31, 2011
The world of forest legality changes rapidly, and it’s not always easy to keep up with what’s happening. At the Forest Legality Alliance, we’ll be using this space to point out new reports, publications, newsletters, and resources that can help you stay up to date with what’s current in the world.
This week, we’re looking at a report on the timber trade in Southeast Asia and an industry association response. In late July, the UK office of the Environmental Investigation Agency released “Crossroads,” a report on cross-border timber traffic between Laos and Vietnam. Last week, the Forest Legality Alliance received a response from HAWA, the Handicraft and Wood Industry Association of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, which is a member of the Alliance. As a platform for information sharing and improved understanding of forest legality and trade issues, the Forest Legality Alliance is pleased to have the opportunity to present both documents.
Crossroads (PDF, 24 pages, 1.2 Mb), released in late July, is available here.
HAWA’s response (PDF, 1 page, 812 Kb) can be read here.
